A day off to freshen up in Whananaki then across the school footbridge then through some coastal farm and bush with plenty of little bays and some of the largest Pohutakawa before entering a track taking you past Tane Moana one of the oldest surviving Kauri trees. Onto Ngunguru where James picked me up by boat to cross the estuary go his walkers camp. The next day has 2 big estuary crossings but even with a dawn start the second one was to high and a long plod through rolling farmland along the road reconnected with the track at Ocean beach. The first view as you get to the beach is the impressive bream head the northern pillar of Whangarei harbor. A walk around the outer harbor amongst impressive rocky peaks to a water taxi across to Marsden Point and walk down Bream Bay to Ruakaka Beach. Oh Ireland out of the way bring on England….
